At our naturopathic concussion clinic, we use functional medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of concussion and its related sequelae, such as ADHD and brain fog. We use electroencephalograms (qEEG) and Impact testing for the diagnosis of the extent of traumatic brain injury. We then used targeted treatments, such as IV NAD+, Photo modulation and Pulsed EMF therapy to facilitate speedy recovery.
The symptoms of a concussion can result from inflammation of the brain, ocular, and vestibular nerves, leading to congestion of blood flow and subsequent experience of acute pain, and loss of cognitive function. Additionally, injury to the neck structures can lead to chronic muscle guarding, further burdening the injury. Sometimes, the gastrointestinal tract and hormone regulation are affected after a concussion. Therefore, concussion testing needs to include both the physical and neurological systems.
The symptoms of concussion can be there, however, without other signs on MRI or conventional imaging techniques. Thanks to a new technology now offered at our Northshore Naturopathic Clinic, our patients have new hope. The technology is called Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG). It can be used not only to diagnose the concussion but also to guide the proper treatment of head injuries.
We use comprehensive, personalized testing first to assess and quantify post-concussive changes. The first step is to use a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) to identify the brain’s spontaneous electrical activity related to a concussion. This analysis enables us to view dynamic changes post-concussion. Additionally, we use visual, vestibular, cognitive and functional hormone testing as indicated to correct after-effects of concussion.
The qEEG, combined with a robust neurofeedback training program, can then be used to augment brain activity, help alleviate symptoms, and achieve sustained improvements. IV therapies to address brain inflammation, nutritional support to facilitate brain healing, and techniques such as Bowen therapy to address the physical guarding of the neck and shoulders can naturally bring lasting changes.
Head injuries are common. About 20% of individuals experience one or more in their lifetimes. A loss of consciousness after a blow to the head usually means a concussion.
But not all head injury comes with a loss of consciousness. In fact, all too often, Traumatic brain injury without a loss of consciousness can rattle the brain enough to lead to long-term problems affecting the motor, cognitive and emotional capacity. The condition is called Post-Concussion Syndrome.
The simple fact remains that each concusison predisposes the individual to yet another one. And individuals with a history of concussion are more likely to receive a psychological diagnosis, such as ADHD, depression, or experience permanent changes in cognitive capacity.
Some symptoms of post-concussion syndrome show up immediately. Others may be delayed for days and remain for months to years after injury.

This 4 months, twenty visits, diagnosis, treatment, and training plan are for individuals with a diagnosis of Concussion, TBIs, or Post-concussive Syndrome.
The first two visits are diagnostic, and expectations for outcome are set. Concussion Index and Attention Networks are examined. Depending on the history and assessment, the treatment plan is individualized and may include IV NAD+, Loreta Neurofeedback, Pulsed EMF therapy, Photo-modulation, Trigger Point Injection, Bowen therapy, and referral for vision and executive function training
